What is the difference between professional and retail clients?

BDSwiss classifies all clients as either Retail or Professional, based on their level of trading experience, understanding of risk, and availability of trading funds. We are restricted by regulations from the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), in the leverage we can offer retail clients. We therefore offer different margin rates for Retail and Professional clients. Professional clients under the Company can trade with leverage up to 1:400, as opposed to Retail Clients who are restricted to a maximum leverage of 1:30.

To be classified as a Professional client you must satisfy at least two of the following three strict criteria:

  • You have made at least 10 trades (in significant size) per quarter over the last four quarters
  • You have a total trading portfolio size in excess of €500,000
  • You have worked in the financial sector for at least one year in a professional position

If you believe you meet these requirements, please contact the Customer Support Team to discuss the criteria further at [email protected].
